Singers’ History

Dr. Dale Webb founded Wherwell Singers in 2006, having moved into the village of Wherwell with a lust to conduct a chamber choir.

Wherwell has a population of 400, neighbouring Chilbolton 1,000: it seemed unlikely there would be sufficient local support. Yet from an initial turnout of just three singers, under Dale’s talented direction the choir grew sufficiently to perform a few carols at Wherwell’s Winter Fayre that year.

By the Summer of 2007, and with the support of versatile singer and accompanist, David Wright, the choir was able to present its first concert, growing to 14 by the time of the now traditional Christmas Concert in Wherwell Church.

The choir has since grown to 28 singers, and has collaborated with a variety of accompanists, local choirs and expert tutors to provide a rich variety of choral music to a growing and appreciative audience.

We have raised significant funds for local charities, including the ‘Hello Martha’ fund and Wherwell Church Roof Appeal, whilst participating inĀ  events at Romsey Abbey, Winchester Cathedral and Wherwell Priory has raised our profile.

With the support of his partner, David Wright, Dale has nurtured this eclectic band of singers into an enthusiastic and balanced chamber choir. We are tremendously grateful for his vision and talent, and share a profound admiration for his ability to select, refine and present a rich and varied programme of music for every concert.

With sincere thanks to both Dale and David,

Wherwell Singers.
