Under the direction of Dr. Dale Webb, Vocalium is going from strength to strength, performing accomplished concerts on tour in both England and Wales.
The chamber choir specialises in music from the 16th and 21st centuries, and returned to Wherwell in October as guests of Wherwell Singers.
Vocalium’s accomplished performance included:
Sacred pieces by Russian composers working in the first half of the 20th century;
A madrigal for double chorus by Vaughan Williams, which was published for the first time in 2007;
Welsh folks songs by Burtch, Davies and Holst;
A spine tingling settling of the Magnificat by the Estonian composer Arvo Part;
Contemporary pieces from Eric Whitacre, Ola Gjeilo, Gabriel jackson and Rene Clausen; and
Tudor sacred music from Byrd, Gibbons, Tallis and Tye.
An enthusiastic audience was delighted with the variety and standard of music performed and hoped the choir will return to Wherwell. Vocalium’s next performance is due to be performed in Birmingham in February.
