Wherwell Singers have performed pieces by this contemporary composer in many of their concerts.
You may remember ‘Seal Lullaby’ or ‘Stay with me Lord’, lyrical and moving pieces which appeal to choir and audience alike.
This Christmas we are singing ‘My Lord has Come’, composed in 2011, whilst the Benefice Big Sing in September will include ‘The Call of Wisdom’, commissioned by St Paul’s Cathedral to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee this year.
Todd, born in 1970 and an alumnus of Durham School and Bristol University, is known for his jazz compositions and choral work, though his compositions encompass a wide range of musical styles.
He has worked with The Sixteen, the BBC , and at the Barbican and Royal Opera House, and his jazz-inspired ‘Mass in Blue’ is frequently performed with his jazz trio and Todd himself at the piano.
“My music is about bringing people together – jazz musicians and church choirs; top class professional musicians and enthusiastic community music-makers; brass bands and opera singers; children’s choirs and wonderful organ sounds.” Will Todd
